There’s something about skincare creams with the word “milk” written on the bottle that makes me want to snap it up off the shelf and onto my dehydrated skin. Clever marketing perhaps, but for me it connotates a rich, luxurious lotion that’s going to readily absorb itself into my body’s pores and do exactly what it says on the bottle by rehydrating, cooling and soothing.
Ambre Solaire’s Skin Soother Hydrating Milk with cactus extract comes in a delightful blue/green bottle eminating a delicious smell of freshness and cool air.
The liquid itself is smooth, fairly thin and extremely easy to rub in making it very attractive for after-sun usage. An instant cooler. A few hours in the sun (bear in mind I applied suncream liberally throughout the day) I bought this hydrating milk to reduce the tightness of my skin, particularly on my face and shoulders. Garnier’s product message on the back reads “Enriched with Cactus extract and hydrating agents,it helps lock in moisture and rehydrate the skin.” The Cactus scent is wonderfully sweet even up to 2 hours after application and it certainly seemed to “lock in” that moisture, with me only applying another round of lotion just before I went to bed. The brand also states it moisturises for 12 hours. I probably wouldn’t recommend leaving it 12 hours if you do have sunburn but as a moisturiser on the whole, after the 12 hours benchmark my skin did feel generally ‘nourished’ for want of a better word.
Leaving your skin lightly perfumed, the after-sun certainly feels luxurious and was undoubtedly a good buy (particularly with the half price tag I bought it at). An absolute recommendation for anyone going on holiday or for anyone out and about in the sun for a couple of hours. But,remember,after-sun does not replace suncream..so buy yours now.
