I’ve never been one to sing the praises of Yoga as a form of keeping fit, looking after your health and being a pivotal discipline for well-being. For me,it was associated with meditative hippy tosh. However,a few weeks back I embarked on a 5 week Yoga journey which took me through the Downwards Facing Dog,Child’s Pose and Warrior positions to name but a few of the stretches and body toning excercises involved, and I actually came out feeling refreshed.
The thing with Yoga is that it concentrates heavily on breathing and focusing your energies on deep breathing and posture, which in general tends to relax the body and clear the mind.
Originating in India, there are many forms of Yoga including but not limited to Hatha Yoga,Gnana Yoga,Karma Yoga and Hatha Yoga Pradipika which all take on different aspects of the discipline but which all focus particularly on vital corporal energies.
It is a great form of exercising and toning muscles and is especially popular for increasing flexibility. Yoga is nowadays practised much more commonly around the world with many celebrities endorsing the discipline as a must do daily activity.
As for me,the 5 week classes came to an end and I don’t particularly feel much more flexibile or clear-headed. But I do feel more intuned to my breathing and posture and often catch myself trying to correct my posture when sitting or standing…
The classes will be recommencing in mid-September and I’ve already put my name back down on the list.
